Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to yet another Guide Thread made by me. This Guide will be about the newly programmed feature: Newspapers. Before I begin I would like to tell you that every newspaper is different. This Guide just provides you with on of the possible ideas of making a nice newspaper. That being said, it is very possible that you can do a lot better then I did while making this Guide. I still hope this Guide can help you though.

How to not make a Newspaper

Before I start with telling you how to make a nice newspaper I would like to spend some attention on the bad ways of making one. Let me list a few bad examples for you.

4) Dear Diary (Facebook),
Today I went to see Dave in the park and it was so much fun!

After an hour or so I had to leave because my mom called me because my brother apparently died. (Who gives a f*ck right?) :@ :@ :@
We were having such a great time together and all and then I had to leave...
I wonder if Dave is going to ask me to prom tomorrow.
I hope he does because I totally love him.
Anyways I have to go diary. My moms nagging to me about how I need to go to sleep right now!

As you can see in the previous examples there are a lot of ways to make a bad newspaper. Luckily for you though there are also a lot of good ways to make one. You just have to follow a few simple routines.

Preparing for your Newspaper

Before you start on writing things down, you have to decide a few things for yourself. First of all you have to decide what you are going to write about and once you've done that you still have to do something else. This simply is finding news about the topic you chose. Without news it isn't really a newspaper after all. The next step will take place when you eventually found some news you want to talk about in your newspaper. You basically have the research your news. The more information you can provide in your newspaper, the better the news is after all.

Making your Newspaper

If you have everything prepared and collected every information needed to make your newspaper you'll have to start writing the story. Writing a story may be a somewhat more difficult part since you have to think about the people who will be reading it and you have to think about the people mentioned in your newspaper. Besides, the way you tell things will most likely also play a part on the general opinion of the readers directed at who or what is mentioned in the newspapers. So to avoid unneeded conflicts, you'd best try to stay as nice and polite as possible while stating your facts.

The five W's

Who, What, Where, When, why. Those are the five W's and are almost always necessary to be in any Newspaper! This is because the five W's just state some basic information. Of course there are exceptions when not knowing the information asked yourself... But even so there are solutions for this. Take that I don't know who was killed in a murder case for example I could say: An unidentified victim for example.

Extra information

Obviously the five W's will not be enough to fill in your newspaper and even though the five W's are recommended to use, there are always people who like to make their newspaper in a different way or people who only want to use a few of the five W questions. Extra info however is also very important in a newspaper and it is most likely also what makes your newspaper different. A common used extra info question is for example 'How'. How something happened is after all always interesting to know.

Story Telling

Besides the info that you will present in your newspaper, is a little story telling always nice. There are after all only a few people who stay interested in something that only states facts without knowing the full story. To do this however you must really know your news well and this might not be that easy in the end. Remember to only try and state what really happened. No one likes liars after all.

Here is a little example I made for you guys to see how the current newspapers are programmed in and to see how I made a story of something. (Do remember though that I kinda rushed this story. Forgive me for that)


Conclusion

Again I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this. My conclusion is however that a newspaper can vary from newspaper to newspaper depending on the person who writes it. The subject then again does also vary depending on the person who writes it. When writing a newspaper, do please remember that you are writing a newspaper though and nothing else. Please don't go writing useless things. I also want you all to remember that the current newspapers featured are not official newspapers. Everyone can make one and the information might not be that correct as you think.

Also, remember to try and make the grass overlap with the edge of the road textures.

I love the newspaper story. Hopefully it'll be like that all the time in the game... not Guilds getting slaughtered, but a nice little story of things that happened.

The newspaper idea is great. I'd read that a lot when there's not much else going on.

Yeah, a good way to spread news or just use as a broadcast kind of thing / official documents.

Newspapers are ideal for earning Col/Cor and inter floor connections.

Yeah... players in-game can pay the newspaper to make an ad so that said player can get help from anyone who answers the ad...
